OMEGA 3 fatty acids 🐟 Omega 3 is an ESSENTIAL fatty acid, meaning we need to obtain it through our diets. Over the years every food group has been shunned at some point, fats getting a lot of the brunt! But we NEED healthy fats in our diets for our brain health, hormonal health, skin health, joint health... and the list goes on. Aim for 2-3 portions (salmon fillet counts as 1 portion) of oily fish per week. Oily fish are salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, herring (think SMASH)- as well as fresh tuna. Other plant based sources include walnuts, flax seeds and chia seeds. 🥦 Plant sources are converted into omega 3 fats within the body, but the conversation rate is much slower and lower than when consuming omega 3 fats from fish directly. 🤰🏼 Pregnant mammas, omega 3 fats (specifically DHA) are vital for the development of your babies brain and vision 🧠 👁
